IT WAS OFFICIALLY the Spring Equinox yesterday and just about every kind of Easter egg is now packed, cheek by brightly wrapped jowl, on the shelves of our little local village shop.

After a chilly and (often heater-less) winter thanks to the UK's cost of living crisis, the spring has finally announced her much awaited return to the garden. Plump green buds have sprouted on my apple trees and the blackberry and holly hedges now bustle with glossy-winged blackbirds, iridescent starlings or the occasional pair of pink-breasted woodpigeons.

A Summer Romance Beckons...

Now a "banditry" of blue tits have also joined in the springtime fray by flitting amongst the golden catkins of a nearby hazel as they build their nests. Likewise I am nestled indoors as I finally complete the second draft of A Summer Romance with the Earl.

More Slings and Arrows

Although I have thoroughly enjoyed writing the third instalment of beleaguered copywriter Jess Smith's romantic misadventures with the Earl of Birling Grove, it would be dishonest to say that life hasn’t been without its setbacks.

Just when you thought the last three years couldn't get any more insane...

Although things have slowly been returning back to normal since the peak of the pandemic, the sad passing of the queen and the revolving door of UK prime ministers (whose careers seem to have less longevity than a 60p Tesco's Iceberg lettuce)...

Mr. Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson is also threatening to return and finish off any of the British populace that hasn't already succumbed to covid, hypothermia or just the government's sheer economic incompetence. And all this has been going on while most of my writing day has been taken up by much needed physio thanks to a pretty horrid injury.

But the Show Must Go On

Although it means that writing has been far slower than I would like, the enjoyment I get out of creating fun romances for my readers means I can still drag myself to the page each day and maintain a steady writing schedule without banging my head repeatedly against a desk.

It’s also what keeps me writing this series, along with the hope that you will enjoy the results, but in the meantime I must say it’s good to be finally on the home straight.

So as the last stage of editing gets underway, to celebrate this significant third writing milestone I will be giving away most of my romance reads for free—starting from next week.
